A Closer Look:

Amazon Fire Tablets

Bark monitors photos, videos, Silk web browsing (including incognito browsing), Instagram, TikTok, Messenger Kids, Skype, and Kik. 

Any other email and social media accounts are monitored by connecting the accounts to Bark with your child's login credentials. This means that if your child engages in worrisome activity on those platforms on an unmonitored device ⁠— like their friend's phone ⁠— Bark will still alert you! 

Bark can even alert you about potential new accounts or apps your child creates!

Android Devices

Bark monitors text messages (including most deleted ones!), photos and videos, web browsing (including incognito browsing), and many installed apps.

Bark also monitors your child's Android device location with check-ins

Bark can even alert you about potential new accounts or apps your child creates! 

Lastly, we also offer Bark Screen Time features for Android on all of our subscription plans.

iOS Devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod)

Text messages/iMessages, photos, videos, Chrome web browsing, notes, voice memos, Kik messages, and WhatsApp messages!

Windows PC, Mac, and Chromebook

Bark monitors web browsing on Chrome — including website visits, searches, and incognito browsing — when you install the Bark extension for the Google Chrome and Edge browsers on your child's Chromebook, Mac, or Windows computer. 

Add the Bark Chrome Extension

If your child has a Chromebook, click here to see if it supports the Bark for Chromebooks app. If it is able to install the Bark for Chromebooks app, then you can also monitor the photos and videos (including the camera roll, screenshots, and downloads) saved to the Chromebook storage, as well as direct messages on Instagram and Snapchat sent on your child's Chromebook.

Social Media and Email Services

Below you'll find the details of what we monitor on particular social media and email platforms. 

 

BIGO Live: Bark monitors your child’s in-stream chats and direct messages.

To get this platform monitored, you will need to connect it to your Bark dashboard with your child's BIGO Live login credentials. Click here for instructions.

Dropbox: Bark monitors the content of document, image, and video files stored in the cloud.

Discord: On Android, Bark will monitor the direct messages (text chat only) on private conversations between one or multiple users.

Facebook: Bark monitors what is posted on your child's wall, including the captions, images, and the thumbnails of videos.

Flickr: Bark monitors the photos your child posts as wells comments on them.

Gmail: Bark monitors the emails your child sends and receives, including attachments and Google Hangouts (text chat only).

Google Drive: Bark monitors the documents your child creates and ones that are shared to their Google Drive, including document comments, document comment replies, photos, and videos.

GroupMe: Bark monitors your child's group messages and private messages, including images and media associated with each.

Hangouts: Bark monitors your child's text chats on Google Hangouts via a connected Gmail account. This includes group chats and private chats (text only).

Holla: On Android, Bark will monitor the direct messages (text chat only) on private conversations between matches.

Houseparty: On Android, Bark monitors Houseparty Notes. These are the messages passed between users while inside the app.

Instagram: Bark monitors your child's posts on their account, which includes images, videos, and captions for those posts.

To get this platform monitored, you will need to connect it to your Bark dashboard with your child's Instagram login credentials. Click here for instructions.

Bark can also monitor Instagram direct messages (text chat and most images) and searches on connected Android and Amazon devices. We're continually working to be able to monitor direct messages and searches on iOS devices. 

Here's how you can help us and other parents across the globe:

  • Tweet them. "Hey @Instagram, please open your direct message API to the good guys at @barktechco so they can keep my children safer online!"
  • Message their support team directly from the app. Click on your profile photo circle at the bottom right  > Click the settings gear at the top right > Scroll down to "Report a problem" > Click "General Feedback" > Type in your request for Instagram to open up their Direct Messaging API to @Bark.us so we can keep your children safer online > Send). Kidzworld: Bark monitors forum posts and comments, chat room messages, and private messages between users.

Kik: Bark monitors your child's text chats on connected mobile devices. Bark can also monitor your child's message attachments (like images) on connected iOS devices.

Lipsi: On Android, Bark will monitor the direct messages (text chats) between users.

LiveMe: Bark monitors your child’s in-stream chats and direct messages.

Messenger Kids: On Android and Amazon Fire, Bark will monitor the direct messages (text chat only) on your child's conversations taking place in the Messenger Kids app. We're continually working on being able to monitor Messenger Kids on iOS.

NOTE: Messenger Kids is a separate app from Facebook Messenger. Bark is presently only able to monitor Messenger Kids and the Facebook app at this time. We're continually working on being able to monitor the Facebook Messenger app.

Here’s how you can help us and other parents across the globe:

  • Tweet at them: “Hey @Facebook, please open your Messenger API to the good guys at @barktechco so they can help keep my kids safe online!”
  • Ask their support team to open their API to Bark directly through the Facebook Help Community.

OneDrive: Bark monitors images, videos, and documents within your child's OneDrive.

To get this platform monitored, you will need to connect it to your Bark dashboard with your child's OneDrive login credentials. Click here for instructions.

OneNote: Bark monitors the text of the notes within your child's OneNote.

Pinterest: Bark monitors your child's profile, the images, and descriptions that they pin.

Reddit: Bark monitors your child's submissions, comments, and private messages. This includes replies to their comments, which on Reddit come in as private messages.

NOTE: Recently, Reddit released a Chats feature (that is different from private messages). Bark is exploring expanding monitoring coverage to that feature, but presently Bark does not monitor Chats on Reddit.

Skype: On Android and Amazon Fire, Bark will monitor the direct messages (text chat and media attachments) on private conversations between users.

Slack: Bark monitors private messages, private messages between multiple parties, and private channels.

Snapchat: On Android, Bark monitors Snapchat private messages (text chat only)

As many families know, Snapchat makes it extremely difficult to monitor its content on any platform. Currently, no other monitoring service can cover Snapchat on iOS devices. We’re working hard on solutions for iOS devices and will keep you updated on our progress.

  • Message their support team directly. Click on "I have feedback" > Click "I have a suggestion" > "One-to-one chats" or "Group chats" > "Other" > Type in your request for Snapchat to open up their Direct Messaging API to Bark.us so we can keep your children safer online > Send).

Spotify: Bark monitors your child's recently played songs and analyzes lyrics for potential issues.

Steam: On Android, Bark will monitor the direct messages (text chat only) on private conversations between one or multiple users.

TikTok: Bark can monitor TikTok chats (text chat only) for Android and Amazon device users. We're continually working to be able to monitor TikTok on iOS.

Tumblr: Bark monitors your child's answers, chats, links, photos, photo posts, quotes, and blog posts.

WhatsApp: Bark can monitor your child's text chats on connected mobile devices, like Android and iOS devices. Bark can also monitor your child's message attachments (images and video) on connected iOS devices.

YouTube: Bark monitors the videos your child posts, comments made to those videos, and new videos posted to your child's user and channel subscriptions.
