Does Bark monitor text messages?

Yes! Customers on the Bark Premium plan can monitor text messages, including pictures, audio, and video attachments. Here's how to set up text monitoring on your child's iPhone or iPad, Android, Bark Watch, and Bark Phone.

During setup, Bark will scan up to 60 days of your child's text history on that device. If Bark finds a potential issue, we'll alert you via email, text, or in-app along with a snippet of the conversation.

Does Bark monitor iMessages?

Yes! Bark monitors iMessages on iPhones and iPads when you follow these steps.

What texting apps does Bark cover?

Bark monitors texts sent and received on your child's default messaging app, including:

  • Apple Messages (iPhones)

  • Google Messages (most Androids)

  • Samsung Messages (Samsung devices)

  • The Messages app pre-installed on Bark Phones and Watches

Note: On Bark Phones, kids cannot switch to a different texting app. We built the Bark Messages app to support contact approvals and prevent deleted texts.

Can I see all of my child's texts and pictures?

No. Bark doesn't give parents access to every message. Instead, we send alerts when we detect issues like bullying, self-harm, or predatory behavior, along with a copy of the flagged content and recommended next steps. Here are some tips on how to talk to your child about Bark.

How quickly are text alerts sent?

Alerts aren't instant. Because Bark analyzes full conversations rather than just keywords, processing takes a little time. But this approach makes it much more likely to catch real issues. Learn more.

Does Bark analyze deleted texts?

In some cases, yes. Bark can analyze and alert you to concerning content found in some deleted texts, though it won't show you a full list of deleted messages. Android devices give us more flexibility here, so our ability to catch deleted texts is higher on Android than on iPhone.

The Bark Phone and Bark Watch don't allow kids to delete texts without your permission.

Can I block texts, contacts, or calls?

On the Bark Phone and Bark Watch, yes! Learn more about these features for the Bark Phone and Bark Watch.

On other devices, no. Text messages and calls use a different technology that Bark can't filter on those devices. You can still block internet access to apps and sites, but that's separate from texts and calls.

If texts are being blocked on your child's device and it's not a Bark Phone, let's fix it.

You can also set communication limits on your child's iPhone or iPad directly through Apple's free Screen Time features.

Does Bark monitor Real-Time Texting (RTT)?

RTT is an accessibility feature that lets users communicate via text during a phone call. Learn more about RTT.
