Fix account monitoring issues

Choose your issue to get the steps to solve it:

Kid's account is "Unauthorized" or "Disconnected"

There are a few reasons the social media, drive, or email account may have gotten disconnected from Bark:

  • Your kid changed the password

  • Your kid adjusted the security settings (like 2-factor authentication)

  • Your kid deleted the account

  • Your kid did nothing, but their Facebook account got disconnected
(Facebook accounts have to be reconnected to Bark every 30-60 days due to Meta's security policies)

  • Your kid did nothing, but their YouTube account got disconnected
(YouTube doesn't let accounts with a birthday under 13 years old to connect to Bark, nor ones supervised by Google Family Link)

What to do if your kid's account is disconnected:

  1. Open up your parent app / dashboard.

  2. Tap your child's profile > Apps at the top.

  3. Scroll down to the account that got disconnected and click Fix, Reauthorize, or Resolve.

  4. Get connected!

Connecting the account shows "Monitoring unsupported on iOS"

This message means that we cannot monitor that particular platform on iPhones, and iPads. Here's what Bark can still do to help keep your kid safer online and in real life:

Error connecting iCloud account "We're sorry but it appears the email/password is incorrect"

If you see the error "It appears the email/password is incorrect" when connecting an iCloud account, the issue is likely that iCloud email requires an app-specific password rather than the regular Apple ID password. Follow this guide to generate one and get your child's emails monitored: Connect an iCloud Email Account

💡 Looking to monitor iPhone and iPad texts, photos, and videos? Follow this guide to get that set up!

Error connecting iCloud account "Please enter a valid mail-enabled iCloud email address (e.g. @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com)"

If you see the error "Please enter a valid mail-enabled iCloud email address" when connecting an iCloud account, the email address you entered may not be an iCloud address. Bark's iCloud integration only works with addresses ending in @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com.

If your child's email ends in something else, such as @gmail.com, make sure to select the correct app when adding their email to Bark. For example, a Gmail address should be connected through Gmail, not iCloud.

Error connecting Yahoo account "We're sorry but it appears the email/password is incorrect"

If you see the error "It appears the email/password is incorrect" when connecting a Yahoo account, the issue is likely that Yahoo email requires an app-specific password rather than the regular Yahoo password. Follow this guide to generate one and get your child's emails monitored: Connect a Yahoo Email Account

Only getting one side of the conversation in Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, and Discord alerts

Bark monitors Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, and Discord on Android by scanning conversations as your child views them, which gives Bark a brief window to capture content. As a result, alerts may only include part of a conversation rather than the full exchange.

Unfortunately, these platforms have declined to work with us directly, which limits what we're able to capture. We're continually working to improve coverage and will update our approach as new options become available.

FAQs

Do I need my child's login information for monitoring?

While many platforms are monitored by entering your child's login credentials to Bark, not all are. When you go to add your kid's accounts and apps to Bark, we will let you know what we need to monitor each one.

What if my kid doesn't have login credentials but uses the app?

Some platforms allow browsing without an account, and what Bark can monitor in those cases depends on your child's device and setup.

  • On Android with the Bark Kids app installed, Bark monitors Snapchat DMs, Instagram DMs, Discord DMs, TikTok DMs, YouTube video titles and searches within the app, as well as webpage titles and searches across Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet, and the Google app, all without needing your child's login credentials. For additional coverage, connect your child's other platforms with their login credentials.

  • On iOS, Bark can monitor WhatsApp and Kik without login credentials if you've set up monitoring through Bark Sync, the Bark Desktop App, or Bark Home. For all other platforms, your child's login credentials are required.

For platforms that can't be monitored by Bark at all, here are a few things you can do in the meantime:

How do I connect my kid's apps and accounts to Bark?

Check out this step by step guide: Add a device or account for monitoring

How do I stop monitoring my kid's apps and accounts?

To remove an account from Bark, follow the steps here: Stop monitoring one of my kid's accounts

Before you do, it's worth knowing that keeping an account connected means Bark can still alert you if your child uses it again in the future. Since Bark Premium supports unlimited kids, accounts, and devices, there's no need to remove accounts to free up space.

If your concern is about a specific app or site being accessible, you may want to block it instead.

How do I change my child's connected social media account to another account?

To add a new account, follow this guide: Add a device or account for monitoring

You don't need to remove the old account. Keeping it connected means Bark can still alert you if your child uses it again, and since Bark Premium supports unlimited kids, accounts, and devices, there's no reason to remove anything to make room.
