Manage the app store on the Bark Phone

Control whether your child can access the Google Play Store, require your approval for new apps, and prevent app removal.

Who can manage Play Store access

Your ability to customize Play Store access depends on your Bark Phone plan.

How to manage Play Store access

  1. From your dashboard, tap your child's name.

  2. Scroll down to Settings.

  3. Tap Other.

  4. Set Allow App Store to Off to block it or On to allow it.

When you block the Google Play Store:

  • The play_store_icon.png Google Play Store app disappears.

  • No new apps can be installed.


Require app approval

  1. From your dashboard, tap your child's name.

  2. Scroll down to Settings.

  3. Tap Other.

  4. Toggle Allow App Store to On.

  5. Toggle Require app approval to On.

  6. To remove app approval, reverse these steps.

When app approval is enabled:

  • Newly installed apps are grayed out until approved.

  • You will get a notification.

  • A task to review app approval requests will appear.

Prevent app removal

  1. From your dashboard, tap your child's name.

  2. Scroll down to Settings.

  3. Tap Other.

  4. Toggle Allow app removal to Off.

    Note: Bark apps and system apps can never be uninstalled by your child, regardless of this setting.


How your child downloads apps

Once you've allowed Play Store access, here's how your child installs apps:

  1. On the Bark Phone, open the play store icon.png Play Store.

  2. If prompted to sign in, log in with your child's Gmail account.

    • If the following screen says you have to activate Family Link parental controls, it means that Gmail won't be able to log into the phone without first making some changes.

    • If Family Link isn't mentioned, continue to the next step.

  3. Search for apps and tap Install.

    • If app approval is enabled, the app will be grayed out until you've approved it in your parent app.
