Battery optimization on Samsung devices

Samsung's One UI has additional battery settings beyond standard Android that can interfere with Bark.

Samsung has its own take on Android that it calls One UI. In addition to the regular Android battery optimization settings, there are some specific settings you can adjust on your kid's Samsung to ensure Bark isn't affected.

Tired of managing these settings manually? The Bark Phone is also a Samsung device, but it isn't affected by battery settings and handles this automatically.

Find your kid's Android version

  1. On your kid's Samsung, open the ⚙ Settings app.

  2. Tap on the 🔍 magnifying glass and search for About phone.

  3. Tap the result and look for the Android version.

Check battery settings

Android 12+

  1. On your kid's Samsung, open the ⚙ Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps.

  3. Tap Bark.

  4. Tap Battery.

  5. Tap Unrestricted.

Android 9-11

  1. On your kid's Samsung, open the ⚙ Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps.

  3. Tap Bark.

  4. Tap Battery.

  5. Tap Optimize Battery Usage.

  6. Tap on the v dropdown menu.

  7. Tap on All.

  8. Find Bark in the list.

  9. Toggle off Bark so that it's not affected by battery settings.

Android 7-8

  1. On your kid's Samsung, open the ⚙ Settings app.

  2. Tap Applications.

  3. Tap the three dots on the top right.

  4. Tap Special access.

  5. Tap Optimize Battery Usage.

  6. Find Bark on the list and make sure it's toggled off.

  7. Next, tap the ⏹ button (on the bottom) to open the Home Screen.

  8. Swipe up to view all apps.

  9. Look for the Samsung Smart Manager app.

    • App is installed: Check that App Battery Optimizer is turned off.

    • App is not installed: Great! You can skip this step.

  10. Next, open the ⚙ Settings app again.

  11. Tap Device Care (or "Device Maintenance").

  12. Tap Battery.

  13. Scroll all the way down and tap Unmonitored apps.

  14. Tap the three dots on the top right.

  15. Add Bark to be an unmonitored app.

Check "Adaptive power saving"

  1. On your kid's Samsung, open the ⚙ Settings app.

  2. Tap Device Care.

  3. Tap Battery.

  4. Tap on the ⁝ menu.

  5. Tap Automation or Advanced.

  6. Turn off Adaptive power saving.

  7. Turn off Auto optimize daily.

Check "Adaptive battery"

  1. On your kid's Samsung, open the ⚙ Settings app.

  2. Tap Battery.

  3. Tap More battery settings.

  4. Turn off Adaptive battery.

Check "app sleep" settings

  1. On your kid's Samsung, open the ⚙ Settings app.

  2. Tap Device Care.

  3. Tap Battery.

  4. Tap App Power Management.

  5. Tap Apps that won't be put to sleep.

  6. Add Bark.

    Not finding the app sleep settings? On some devices, go to Settings > Battery > Background usage limits, then tap each option ("Sleeping," "Deep sleeping," and "Never sleeping apps") to make sure the Bark Kids app is set to never sleep.
