How to set up app blocking and location tracking on iPhone and iPad

iOS setup | Install the Bark Kids app to block apps and sites, set screen time schedules, and enable location tracking.

Watch this video to learn how to enable app and site blocking on your child's iPhone or iPad, as well as location tracking. If you'd like step-by-step instructions, follow the guide below.

iPhone / iPad Setup

  1. On your child's iOS device, install the Bark Kids app.

  2. Set aside your child's device for now.

  3. Open up your parent app / dashboard.

  4. Tap new UI - account icon.png Account > Device codes.

  5. On your child's device, enter the device code into the Bark Kids app.

  6. Allow all permissions.

  7. When asked about location, tap Always Allow or Allow While Using App.

  8. When asked about a VPN, tap Allow. You may be asked to enter your child's lock screen passcode.

  9. (Recommended) Set up location alerts and tracking.

  10. (Recommended) Set up Safari monitoring.

  11. (Recommended) Use Apple's Screen Time to prevent the app from being deleted.

  12. Open up your parent app/dashboard to set routines for blocking or allowing apps.

  13. Repeat these steps for your other children's iOS devices.

How do I know app blocking is working?

  1. Open up your parent app / dashboard.

  2. Tap your child's profile.

  3. Tap Devices at the top.

  4. Tap your child's device name.

  5. Scroll down to Connected via Bark Kids App (VPN) and check the Last Seen Status above it:

How do I know location tracking is working?

  1. Open up your parent app / dashboard.

  2. Tap Map and look for your child's avatar.
