Unapproved numbers can call or text the Bark Phone

Adjust a few settings to block them.

If your child is receiving calls or texts from unapproved contacts, check a few settings in your parent app first, then on the Bark Phone.

Note: Calls and texts from 911, 988, and 6-digit shortcodes (like two-factor authentication codes) are always allowed. These numbers are heavily regulated in the U.S. and are not expected to contain inappropriate content.

On your parent device

  1. Open up your parent app / dashboard.

  2. Tap your child's profile.

  3. Scroll down to Contacts and check the allowed contacts to see if the phone number in question was accidentally allowed previously.

  4. If that isn't the culprit, scroll down and tap Other to ensure Require contact Approval is enabled.

  5. If the issue persists, the steps below should resolve it.

On your kid's device

  1. Tap the ⏹ Home button and swipe up to find and uninstall any third-party texting or calling apps.

💡 Pro tip: Enable app approval to vet future app installs.

  2. Then open the orange messages app.png Messages app. If it's not set as default, it'll prompt you whether it should be the default text app and the answer is yes! This app lets Bark apply your contact approval and delete text rules.

  3. Lastly, double-check their Spam and Unknown Caller settings.
