Update Apple Software on Windows

Families occasionally get an alert asking them to update their computers with Apple software on Windows. This helps us to better monitor your child's iOS device!

Quick Troubleshooting

  1. If you don't already have the Apple software installed, you can install it by selecting the link in the message or in the alert.
  2. If you already have iTunes installed, update iTunes.
  3. Restart your computer. This helps iTunes get updated properly.
  4. Then, check for updates to Windows.
  5. Restart your computer. This helps the PC get updated properly.
  6. Getting the same error message in Bark? You may have installed an incompatible version of iTunes. Uninstall it by following the detailed troubleshooting steps below.

Detailed Troubleshooting

These steps vary slightly based on your version of Windows.

  1. Click windows.png Start and then on ⚙ Settings.
  2. Select Apps and Features on the left.
  3. Uninstall iTunes.
  4. Uninstall Apple Software Update (if present).
  5. Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support (if present).
  6. Uninstall Bonjour (if present).
  7. Uninstall Apple Application Support (if present).
  8. Uninstall iPod Support (if present).
  9. Restart your computer. This helps the PC remove all components.
  10. Download 64-bit iTunes (most common) or 32-bit iTunes (least common)

    Getting one of these messages?

    Message Solution
    "Your PC's settings only let it install verified apps from the Store"
    Click on Open settings and select the option where you can download applications from Anywhere.
    "Microsoft recommends installing this app from the Microsoft Store" Click on Continue installing from outside the Store.
