If your child's location on the map looks farther away than they really are, or it is slow to update, a few checks usually fix it. Most of these settings are on by default. Follow the steps for the model your child wears.
How to improve location accuracy
Samsung model

Turn off power saving mode.
This is the most common reason location lags on the Samsung model, since power saving delays location updates, sometimes by a lot.
Swipe down from the watch face to open the Quick Access panel and tap the
Power saving icon to turn it off,
or open ⚙️ Settings, tap Battery, and turn off Power saving.
Connect to Wi-Fi.
Swipe up to open the Apps screen, tap ⚙️ Settings, tap Connections, then tap Wi-Fi and connect.
Check the signal.
Look at the signal bars at the top of the screen. In areas with weak signal, location can take longer to update.
Restart the watch. Press and hold the Home button and the Back button for about 7 seconds.
Wait a few minutes, then refresh the map on your dashboard over the next day or two. You should see the accuracy improve.
💡 If the battery is very low, the watch may switch to Watch Only mode, which pauses location until it charges.

Check the signal at the top right. Weak signal means slower updates.
Restart the watch. Press and hold the top side button.
Wait a few minutes, then refresh the map on your dashboard over the next day or two.
Getting repeated alerts even when the device hasn't moved?
If you're getting a bunch of arrival or departure alerts even though the device is staying in one place, it could be due to small changes in how the GPS is reporting the location. This can happen when signal is weak — like inside buildings or during bad weather — and may cause the location to "jump" slightly on the map.
A quick fix is to increase the radius of the favorite location. That way, small location shifts won’t trigger unnecessary alerts.
