Below we break down what you should do if your Macbook's Bark Desktop App is not opening. For the best instructions, select the specific way your app isn't opening below:
Error: "Bark is damaged and can’t be opened."
- Click Move to Trash in the error.
- Open Finder.
- Look for Bark in the left column. If present, click ⏏ Eject.
- Now, let's download a fresh copy of the app here: bark.us/ios
- It should install and open properly! Once it does, continue with our iOS setup guide.
Error: “Double click to install” is crossed out with 🚫
- This issue is only possible on 10.11-10.13 Macs. If your Mac is newer, follow the "Other issues or errors" instructions instead.
- Click the Apple icon on the top left.
- Select System Settings.
- Click Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
- Click Security.
- Click the pop-up menu next to “Allow applications downloaded from,” then choose App Store and identified developers.
- Next, let's open Finder.
- Click Applications on the left.
- Double click on Bark. It should open now!
- If the issue persists, download Apple software components for older systems.
Other issues or errors
If you are experiencing one of these issues...
- The app doesn't open, or only opens for a second and immediately disappears
- Error: "Bark can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software."
...Then, let's check a few settings on your Mac.
We have created specific instructions for various Mac versions. To find your current Mac version, follow these steps:
- Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen.
- Click About This Mac.
- A pop-up will appear similar to the one below, telling you which version you are on.
- Then, click on the steps applicable to your version of Mac below:
MacOS 10.15+
- Click the Apple icon on the top left.
- Select System Preferences (or System Settings).
- Click Security & Privacy (or Privacy & Security).
- Click the General tab at the top.
- Click the lock on the bottom left.
- Enter the password you use to log into your Mac. This will allow you to make changes to these settings.
- Under "Allow apps downloaded from," select Open Anyway if present. Otherwise, select App Store and identified developers.
- Next, click the Privacy tab at the top.
- Click Full Disk Access on the left.
- Now, click the ➕ sign.
- Select Applications from the left column, select Bark, and click Open.
- You can now click the lock again to prevent further changes to your settings.
- Next, let's open Finder.

- Double click on Bark. It should open now!
MacOS 10.14
