In this guide, you’ll learn how to set up Bark for Schools on your Google Workspace domain as an administrator.

Get set up

  1. Recommended: Create a Google Workspace super admin for Bark (e.g. [email protected]) to make future handoffs easier.

  2. Sign in to your school or district's Google admin console as a Super Admin.

  3. Install the Bark for Schools marketplace app. Alternatively, select Apps > Google Marketplace apps > Apps list > Install App to search for Bark and install the app.

  4. Click Admin Install and ensure it's installed on the top level of the domain and is enabled for everyone in the organization. Rest assured, you will choose the specific OUs we are monitoring from your Bark dashboard later in the set up process.

  5. Click Complete additional setup now.

  6. Log in with your Google Workspace email on the top right of bark.us/schools.

  7. Continue onboarding. Don't worry if you make a mistake with your settings, you will be able to update them again in the future.

  8. That's it! 🎉 We recommend checking the dashboard daily at bark.us/schools. Learn more best practices in our Super Admin Guide.

Error when logging in

error

Error says: "Your account doesn't have the administrative permissions needed to install Bark. Please contact your domain administrator."

We typically see this when either:

  • The app hasn't been set up on the top level of the domain.

  • The app hasn't been installed for everyone on the domain.

  • The email being used to log in doesn't match the email used to set up the account, or hasn't been invited by the domain admin of the account as a Reviewer within Bark.

If you've confirmed that it's not one of the above issues and you're still getting this error, reach out to our support team at [email protected] for further assistance.

How do I know it's working?

On your Bark for Schools dashboard, you will see an overview of the activities analyzed so far and the current number of students monitored:

We expect that number of students to be directly related to the number of student accounts you have enabled for monitoring in your Bark Settings.

Keep in mind, due to the nature of our monitoring looking at context, not just keywords, monitoring alerts are not instantaneous.
