Background

The Brave browser has a Tor and Secure DNS feature that seeks to encrypt browsing. For Bark's in-home filtering and Screen Time rules to apply to the Brave browser, you'll want to turn off these features. While we can still filter browsing done in Incognito Mode, you may want to turn this feature off entirely as well, so we've included instructions for making these adjustments below!

Instructions for Windows

STEP 1: Start by searching for your Command Prompt application in Windows, and select Run as Administrator.

STEP 2: Copy and paste the following command into Command Prompt and press Enter:

REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave /v BrowserGuestModeEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 0

STEP 3: Copy and paste the following command into Command Prompt and press Enter:

REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave /v IncognitoModeAvailability /t REG_DWORD /d 1

STEP 4: Copy and paste the following command into Command Prompt and press Enter:

REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave /v TorDisabled /t REG_DWORD /d 1

STEP 5: Copy and paste the following command into Command Prompt and press Enter:

REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave /v IPFSEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 0

STEP 6: Force-quit Brave. Then, re-open it from your Applications list.
Now, Guest Mode, Incognito Mode, and Secure DNS are disabled on Brave. Success!

Re-enable Guest Mode, Incognito Mode, & Secure DNS

If you want to re-enable Guest mode browsing in Brave at a later time, you must follow the same steps above but use slightly different commands in the Command Prompt.

STEP 1: Start by searching for your Command Prompt application in Windows, and select Run as Administrator.

STEP 2: Copy and paste the following command into the Command Prompt console and then press Enter:

REG DELETE HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave /v BrowserGuestModeEnabled /f

STEP 3: Copy and paste the following command into the Command Prompt console and then press Enter:

REG DELETE HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave /v TorDisabled /f

STEP 4: Copy and paste the following command into the Command Prompt console and then press Enter:

REG DELETE HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave /v IncognitoModeAvailability /f

STEP 5: Copy and paste the following command into the Command Prompt console and then press Enter:

REG DELETE HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave /v IPFSEnabled /f

STEP 6: Restart your computer for the change to take effect.
