Confidential Mode in Google Workspace

Bark for Schools is proud to partner with schools and districts to help protect students online and in real life. As part of our ongoing efforts to make sure we're doing everything we can for our partners to protect students, we want to let you know about a very important update to G Suite as of June 25th, 2019

About Gmail Confidential Mode

The confidential mode feature in Gmail would allow students several new options when sending email.

These will include:

  • The ability to create expiration dates
  • Revocation of previously sent messages
  • Additional authentication via text message to view certain emails
  • Recipients cannot forward, print, copy or download the email or its attachments

Impact on Bark for Schools

Confidential Mode will be turned on by default for all Google Workspace users starting June 25th, 2019. Bark will not be able to monitor emails that are sent using the features of Confidential Mode.

Disable Gmail Confidential Mode

If Confidential Mode is on by default, how do I turn it off? We've put together a guide to show you how to do just that.

STEP 1: Sign in to your Google Workspace Admin Console.

STEP 2: Navigate to Gmail User Settings.

STEP 3: Scroll down until you reach Confidential Mode. Clicking on this option will open up the menu and allow you to disable. Take special notice of the Organizational Units you're applying this to.
